How do I find a specific article?

160 views   |   1   0   |   Last updated on Mar 12, 2026    Journal Articles Research

On the library homepage enter the article title into the Discovery search box. The article should be near the top of the result list. If it is available in the Waggoner Library collection you will see a button for View Full Text. If it is not available you will see an option to Request item through Interlibrary Loan.

If the article is NOT in the result list you can copy and paste the article title into Academic Search Ultimate or Google Scholar. This can verify that you have the title entered correctly. It will also show the article if it's available with full text. Remember to link to Trevecca holdings in Google Scholar to connect to our collections. Use Interlibrary loan if you are still not finding the article.

How do I request an Interlibrary Loan?

143 views   |   0   0   |   Last updated on Apr 28, 2020    Interlibrary Loan

IMPORTANT: Check Trevecca holdings BEFORE you request anything through ILL. You can get it immediately and not have to wait. Our Interlibrary Loan Service is for articles or books that are not freely available in Discovery or Google Scholar as full text. (Note: Learn how to link Google Scholar to Trevecca's library.)

You can request items online through interlibrary loan in one of two ways:

1. Find the item in Discovery and click on its title to view the details. There will be a purple 'Request Item through Interlibrary Loan' button that you can click which will attach the item's information to your request, so that you don't have to type it out.

2. If the ILL request button for a title in Discovery is unavailable, use our online interlibrary loan form (you will need to type in the item details)

Please Note:  Your Trevecca email and the 11-digit Campus ID number from your ID card are both required on all ILL requests. Contact the library if you do not have your 11-digit campus ID number. If you have questions or need assistance, please call the ILL office (615-248-1338) or email us (ill@trevecca.edu).

How do I find scholarly/peer-reviewed articles in one of the databases?

121 views   |   0   0   |   Last updated on Mar 12, 2026    Databases Journal Articles Research

Peer-reviewed articles, also known as scholarly or refereed articles, are:

  • Are written by experts in the field
  • Are written for other researchers/scholars
  • Are reviewed by the scholar's peers to determine whether they are high-quality pieces of work
  • Use terms and language that are discipline-specific
  • Usually include in-text citations and a bibliography of cited sources
  • May include graphs, charts, etc., related to the topic
  • Are published by a professional organization or society, university, research center, or scholarly press

Finding peer-reviewed articles

  • Using a library database, or Discovery search on the library home page, you can limit your search to peer-reviewed articles by using the provided filters. The term 'Scholarly' or 'Academic' may be used in addition to 'Peer-Reviewed' as filtering options.

Learn if a journal is peer-reviewed

  • Most databases have a link to individual journal information. Here you'll find if the publication uses a peer-reviewed process.
  • You can also check the publisher website to identify the type of publishing process.

115 views   |   0   0   |   Last updated on Mar 11, 2026    Journal Articles Research

There are two methods to check our journal holdings.

First, many are available in our Discovery search which can be accessed using the following steps:

  1. From the library home page, select ‘Advanced Search’ above the search box.
  2. Enter the journal title in the second search box, on the same line as the Title (ti:) search index.
  3. Scroll down to the 'Filter by' section. In the Format pull-down menu select 'Journal, Magazine'.
  4. Scroll down to select the Search button.
  5. Journals available in print will show Trevecca's holdings in the Main Periodicals. If the journal is available online you will see an 'Access journal' button.

A second method, only relevant for electronic journals, is the following:

  1. On the library home page, go to Find Information in the top menu and select 'E-journals by title'.
  2. Enter the journal title in the first search box and select the Search button.
  3. Select the correct title from the list (note there are sometimes multiple entries, so check all of them).
  4. On the results screen, one or more listings will appear, showing the database collection(s) containing the journal. Note the coverage dates for each listing.
  5. Select a journal title link to access the content.
